“Siyudad namin ‘to. Layas!” was spray painted over the billboards. It turns out to be a brilliant marketing strategy to promote Netflix’s newest animated series, “Trese”.
It was in 2018 when the streaming giant first announced that the Filipino comic book series “Trese” will be available on the platform. The award-winning graphic novel, written by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, takes place in the city of Manila where mythical creatures from Philippine folklore hide among the human population. But the thing is, not all of them are friendly. This leads private detective Alexandra Trese to a criminal underworld full of (evil) supernatural beings.
Sounds exciting? Here are all the deets about the Filipino animated series!
It finally has a trailer.
Netflix finally released a two-minute official trailer on May 21. It starts with a shot of a bloodstained train which stops at the Guadalupe station, as Alexandra Trese prepares for battle to stop mythical creatures of Philippine folklore from killing off the human population.
It has a star-studded cast.
On March 8, 2021, Filipina-American actress Liza Soberano confirmed that she will be voicing Alexandra Trese for the Filipino adaptation of the series. “Screaming on the inside! It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese. I’m a huge fan of Budjette and KaJO’s award-winning Trese comics. Maraming salamat! Excited na ‘ko!” she says in a tweet.

She will be joined by Simon dela Cruz (Kambal: Crispin and Basilio), Christopher Carlo Caling (Hank), and Eugene Adalia (Anton Trese).
For the English version, “Pretty Little Liars” and “YOU” star Shay Mitchell will be voicing Alexandra Trese. The lineup also includes Filipino celebs, like Manny Jacinto (Maliksi), Nicole Scherzinger (Miranda Trese), and Darren Criss (Marco).
On her Instagram, Nicole Scherzinger shared that she is excited to be a part of the incredible cast. “So excited to announce that I’ll be joining my girl (Shay Mitchell) and an incredible cast of other Filipinos as part of ‘Trese’- a @netflix original anime series coming June 11th.”
UDD composed the series’ official soundtrack.
Our ears are about to be blessed! UDD, formerly known as “Up Dharma Down,” composed the official soundtrack entitled “PAAGI”, with lyrics by Armi Millare and Paul Yap.
The series will premiere on Netflix on June 11.
No need to wait for long, because the award-winning comic book series will come to life this June 11!
While there are a total of 7 books in the main “Trese” series, only 6 episodes are scheduled to be released on Netflix for the first season. However, given the popularity of the comics, it’s likely that this animated series will be a success too!
A live countdown is happening on June 10, 13 minutes before midnight.
We’re all going to wait up anyway, so why not spend the last 13 minutes together?
