We know and love bread as these delicious slices of carbs that can make us feel full any time of the day. We also know that bread doesn’t stay fresh for long, and that it is prone to molds and spoilage if not stored properly. If you have leftover bread at home that is about to expire, you can make a tasty treat by cooking it in different ways. Set aside your peanut butter for this one, because we will be making more than just sandwiches! Here are bread recipes you can make in under 50 minutes.

Cinnamon Sugar French Toast

This quick and easy recipe is good for white or whole wheat bread, and you will only need one pan!

Total prep time: 10 minutes

What you’ll need:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 4 slices of bread
  • 2 teaspoons of butter
  • Optional: 2 teaspoons of milk

Procedure:

  1. Beat the eggs and mix in the ground cinnamon. You may add milk if you prefer.
  2. Dip the bread slices individually in the egg mixture, making sure to coat both sides of each slice evenly.
  3. Prepare and grease a pan evenly with butter, then cook the bread slices until slightly browned on both sides, or about two to three minutes.
  4. Place the French toast slices on a plate, then sprinkle some powdered sugar or extra cinnamon if you like. Drizzle some maple syrup, and voila, you’re done!

Bread Pudding

This recipe is proof that leftover bread can be made into a perfect dessert! You don’t have to strictly follow this guide either -- you can let your creativity shine by adding dried fruit or spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

Total prep time: 45 minutes

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 tablespoons or ¼ stick of unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 2 medium eggs
  • Leftover loaf cut into 2-inch cubes
  • A pinch of salt

Procedure:

  1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
  2. Put milk, 1 tablespoon of butter, vanilla extract, sugar, and salt into a small saucepan over low heat, and continue cooking until the butter melts.
  3. Prepare a separate baking dish and grease it with the remaining butter. After greasing, evenly put the cubed bread on the baking dish.
  4. Turn off the heat for the milk mixture and let it cool for 5 minutes.
  5. Once the mixture is cool, add eggs and whisk for around two to three minutes, or until it arrives to a slightly thick consistency.
  6. Pour the mixture over the cubed bread and bake it in the oven for 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Serve at warm or room temperature. You can put dried fruits or cinnamon for added flavor, or eat it with some vanilla sauce.

What you’ll need:

  • Bacon slices (depending on how many slices of leftover bread you have)
  • Cheese slices
  • Toothpicks
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 2 cups of oil
  • Leftover bread

Procedure:

  1. Flatten your bread slices using a spoon or dough-roller until it is thin enough to roll.
  2. On a flat surface, place 2 slices of hamand a slice of cheese on the bread. Roll them tightly, then put toothpicks on both ends of the bread to secure them. Repeat this step on all the bread slices.
  3. Pour 2 cups of oil in a deep pan and put in on low to medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, deep-fry the bread rolls for around two to three minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  5. Once cooked, remove the toothpicks and serve!

  1. Preheat the oven to 125 degrees Celsius and prepare a baking tray covered with parchment paper.
  2. Put your bread slices into a blender or food processor and blend them until they are fine breadcrumbs. You can also manually cut the bread into tiny pieces in the absence of these appliances.
  3. On the parchment paper, spread the breadcrumbs evenly and bake in the oven for around 15 minutes, or until they are dry and crispy. Be sure to stir and check on them every 5 minutes!
